Owner/Company Director-Kelly Smith

Kelly Smith has been dancing since the age of 3. She grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, where she received the bulk of her dance training. After obtaining her BA in psychology, Kelly decided she wanted to continue her dance experience in Denver.  Kelly grew up dancing competitively, and has a strong passion and love for the competition circuit here in Colorado. Kelly really enjoys teaching young children, and making dance a fun, thorough learning experience. She cannot wait to start this new chapter in her life, and share her love for dance with all of you!

Ballet-Melissa HeslepMelissa Heslep received her training at the School of Orlando City Ballet for 13 years under the direction of Beatrix Aldana and spent her summers training with teachers including Luba Gulyaeva, Mark Spivak, Valeria Sinyavakaya, and Veronica Aldana. She performed with the student company until 2001, and upon graduation was accepted into the 2002 Youth America Grand Prix finals in New York City. In Orlando, she performed with Russian Ballet under the direction of Vadim Fedotov and has spent the last five seasons with Central Florida Ballet under the direction of Vasile Petrutiu. She has also had the opportunity to travel as a guest artist for many venues in the United States. Her repertoire includes classics such as The Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, and The Nutcracker, and contemporary works. This is Melissa’s seventh season with Boulder Ballet.

Melissa Halpin

Lauren Hughes

Lauren started gymnastics at the age of 5 and grew up competing in Colorado in both the CARA and USAG programs. She finished her career competing collegiately for Texas Women's University in 2005. She coached recreational and competitive gymnastics from 1999-2008. During that time she also coached tumbling for the cheer programs at Xtreme Altitude Gymnastics and Westwoods Center for Performing Arts. Lauren's daughter Arabella is now a student at The Dance Movement and she is so excited to get back to teaching!.


Rhiannon Huffman

Ballet, Jazz, Preschool

Rhiannon started dance at the age of 2 and continued to compete at two different dance studios until the age of 18. She is proficient in jazz, ballet, tap, and modern lyrical. With her love and dedication for dance showing in her performances. Rhiannon is a Colorado native, whom has resided in Arizona for the last two years, and recently moved back to Colorado to pursue her education in psychology ,with hopes of becoming a marriage and family therapist. While going to school, she’s excited and eager to inspire and teach the next generation of dancers!
